West Michigan Elves help build 1,000 bikes for children’s giveaway

    As it does each year, Elves & More officials choose a neighborhood and make delivery arrangements, but keeps the location a secret to only a handful of organizers. Local police and fire departments escort the caravan of semi’s and cars to the delivery location

    Recently in Grand Rapids more than 250 volunteers built 1,000 bikes that were were given away to children of an unsuspecting area neighborhood on Dec. 23. Now in its 13th year, the nonprofit group aims to bring hope to children ages 3-16 in one neighborhood each year with the free bicycle giveaway.

    In the last 12 years, Elves and More West Michigan has provided 14,000 new bikes and helmets and 5,000 treasure bags of toys and needed items to all the children in the 10 neighborhoods of Grand Rapids.
