Downtown Detroit Moosejaw ‘Here to Stay’

For those hoping the Moosejaw pop-up shop on Woodward in downtown Detroit will be counted as a full permanent shop, the word is it is there to stay. That was the confirmation Saturday from two of the sales associates at the site on the corner of Grand River and Woodward in downtown Detroit.

“That’s right, I just got the email that we are here to stay,” one said.

Moosejaw exceeded sales goals in just three weeks during November and December in Detroit and is now deciding the days of the week to be open during January and February.

The outdoor gear and clothing outfitter was pretty much packed with shoppers during a mid-afternoon visit Saturday while on a hunt for holiday season deals. (I had the $10 off Coupon Thing that I just had to use by the Dec. 31.) Everyone was buying.

Moosejaw, which first opened in 1992 Keego Harbor, Mich., has shop locations throughout Michigan (Ann Arbor, Birmingham, East Lansing, Grosse Pointe, Partridge Creek, and Rochester Hills), as well as shops in Chicago, Boulder, Colo., Kansas City, Mo., and Natick, Mass.

The extended opening is good news for downtown Detroit foot traffic, retail shopping.
