Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Buildings Go Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness Month 

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, several Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan buildings turned pink on Monday, Oct. 2, and will remain lit throughout the month.

Buildings include the Blue Cross Lafayette Tower and tops of the Renaissance Center Towers in Detroit, AF Group Headquarters in Lansing and Lyon Meadows Conference Center Water Tower in New Hudson. 

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan President and CEO Daniel J. Loepp provided the following statement to address Breast Cancer Awareness Month: 

“Each October, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan adds pink lighting to our buildings to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and support and honor everyone who has been affected by this all-too-common disease,” said Dan Loepp, BCBSM President and CEO. “This activation promotes awareness about the importance of regular screenings, including yearly mammograms. Early detection is associated with significantly higher survival rates from breast cancer.”

Locations going pink include:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Tower, 600 E. Lafayette in Detroit. 
  • Renaissance Center Towers, 500 and 600 Renaissance Center in Detroit.
  • AF Group Headquarters, 200 N. Grand Ave., in Lansing.
  • Lyon Meadows Conference Center, 53200 Grand River Ave., in New Hudson. 

According to breastcancer.org, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. In fact, more than 297,000 women in the U.S. are expected to be diagnosed in 2023, along with more than 2,800 men. About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 13%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

Breast cancer became the most common cancer globally as of 2021, accounting for 12% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.
