Gesher Human Services to Hold Hiring Blitz Jan. 16 in Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. (Jan 8, 2024) – Gesher Human Services, one of the largest human service agencies in metro Detroit, will be holding a hiring blitz for approximately 50 direct care workers providing support and training to individuals with disabilities in residential group homes, the community and businesses.

The event on Tues. Jan. 16, from noon to 5 p.m., will be held at the nonprofit organization’s Arnold E. Frank Building (4250 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201); employment positions will be available in Oakland and Wayne Counties. Positions will include house managers and residential direct support professionals who will assist those living in supportive housing in the community due to mental illness or other disabilities.

Other positions are job coaches, who will provide training and assistance to people with intellectual and other disabilities working in the community, and direct support professional apprentices, part of a new program the organization is launching to train direct care workers with paid on-the-job training.

The nonprofit agency revamped its pay structure last year to pay new employees $15-20 per hour with benefits based on work history. Applicants who are not successful in obtaining employment at the hiring blitz, or who decide the work is not suitable for them, can be connected with a Gesher’s Employment Services coach for assistance in finding alternative employment. “We know that there are many metro Detroiters with big hearts who may be thinking that 2024 is the year they make that career change, that they find work that makes a positive impact in their community by working with vulnerable adults,” said Gesher Human Services Vice President of Vocational Rehabilitation, Rene Dell. “Each and every day our nonprofit assists disabled people in our community, whether giving them skills to work in the community, or helping to provide them with a living situation which is comfortable, homey and safe. We would encourage anyone considering a career in this field to come to our hiring blitz and learn about the job options and the benefits available.”
