May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Blue Cross wants to ensure group customers have the information they need to promote available mental health resources to their members.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), more than one in five American adults live with a mental illness. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is addressing this by providing a variety of resources to help its members get the help they need, including everything from self-guided mental health tools to virtual care options, as well as care navigation resources and specialty programs for higher-acuity patients.

Shalini Khandelwal, Director of Behavioral Health Strategy and Market Performance, Blue Cross Blue Shield of MichiganShalini Khandelwal is currently the Director of Behavioral Health Strategy and Market Performance at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in the Chief Medical Officer Division. Shalini has over 12+ years’ experience in the healthcare industry. Since joining the Blues in 2017, Shalini has been a key pillar in transforming the reporting and consulting offering for Auto/National and Michigan customers from the ground up. She has managed and led a team responsible for providing strategic analytics and consultation to ultimately identify opportunities to improve clinical outcomes for our members. Shalini holds a master’s degree in health management and business policy as well as a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She also has her Green Belt Certification. In her new role, Shalini is responsible for continued development of the multi-year strategy for behavioral health and positioning BCBSM as a market leader. This includes oversight of RFP/RFI for customer retention and new business, mental health parity compliance, development of innovative solutions and overall ensuring we are best meeting customer and member needs.
