THE MICHIGAN SCIENCE CENTER AND AXALTA GO GREEN TO SHINE A SPOTLIGHT ON PLANTS, ENERGY AND COLOR WITH “STEP INTO THE LIMELIGHT,” A COMMUNITY FREE DAY ON FEBRUARY 13

Event Celebrates Plant Life with Interactive Exhibits and Activities as Axalta Displays 2021 Global Automotive Color of the Year
Detroit, Mich., Jan. 22, 2021– Plants form the base of food chains in nearly all ecosystems – yet, typically, plants receive little attention. Now, thanks to the generous support of Axalta Coating Systems, the Michigan Science Center will celebrate plants, color, and energy with a special Community Free Day, “Step into the Limelight,” on Saturday, February 13, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The day will be filled with special exhibits, activities, and science demonstrations about photosynthesis. Axalta will also display its 2021 Global Automotive Color of the Year, “ElectroLight,” a bright green-yellow hue, announced January 12. More information on Electrolight is available at Axalta.com/color.
While tickets are free, visitors must make reservations in advance to attend the Community Free Day on February 13. Please visit this link to make reservations. Guests will see how plants aid the ecosystem, help the environment, and support all forms of life. Through additional partnerships with Ducks Unlimited and Six Rivers Land Conservancy, guests will be thrilled with a colorful exhibit experience, fun activities, and education, including access to 220+ hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, a Smithsonian Spark!Lab, STEM Playground and more. IMAX and Toyota 4D Engineering Theater tickets will be available for purchase at the box office (pending reopening plans for theaters).
“We’re thankful for the opportunity to partner with Axalta, Ducks Unlimited, and Six Rivers Land Conservancy,” said Christian Greer, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center. “Plants are producers. They make their own food, provide oxygen for our ecosystems and serve as a basis for life on Earth. During our Community Free Day, we will demonstrate how even small plants make a big difference in our world. It’s a wonderful way to make science learning more relevant and accessible to our audiences and communities.”
“With an increasing need to focus on STEM education activities, Axalta is pleased to participate with the Michigan Science Center on this annual event,” said Nancy Lockhart, Global Product Manager Color at Axalta. “The event helps promote education to our local communities in an interactive and fun way.”
Safety has always been part of science. MiSci has instituted comprehensive policies in the ongoing fight against COVID-19, including requiring the use of masks, social distancing, and asking guests if they meet health requirements for public entry. The museum has strict building occupancy limits, increased outside air exchange, continuous on-site sanitation, and staff health monitoring. For a complete list of MiSci’s COVID-19 policies and procedures, visit mi-sci.org. Due to these safety policies, tickets to Axalta and MiSci’s Free Community Day are limited and must be reserved in advance at Mi-Sci.org.
