Michigan Woman Forward (MWF), a statewide organization focused on building a community where women are empowered to be leaders, inventors, dreamers and doers, will host the 28th annual WomanUp & Celebrate. The evening event will take place on April 27 to honor this year’s Women of Courage & Achievement award recipients and the Sister Survivors of MSU, USAG, and USOC. Guests will fill Detroit’s Motor City Casino Hotel, 2901 Grand River, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to support MWF’s female-driven programs and honor the MWF mission to strengthen and advance equality and opportunity for females of every age within the state of Michigan.

This year’s dinner will also highlight two powerful and inspiring women: Joan Budden, President and CEO at Priority Health and Kim Trent, Deputy Director, Prosperity at The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity as the 2020 Women of Courage & Achievement award recipients. Joan Budden has been a force in the Michigan healthcare system for the past 20 years; leading growth, customer service honors, and profitability for Priority Health since taking over as CEO. Kim Trent is a Detroit leader of women. She chaired the 490 group of African American women to test 1000 rape kits for the Enough Said campaign. She now leads as a member of the Governor’s cabinet.

Detroit co-chairs include JoAnn Chavez, Ronia Kruse, and Clara Walker-Miller.

MWF is a part of many initiatives. #WomanUp is a Women’s Entrepreneurship program supported by MWF that provides mentorship opportunities, micro-loans and investments to help females within the state to break barriers and open the door into entrepreneurship. #UGOGirls provides young women the opportunity to attend leadership camps which help to prepare middle and high schoolers for future academic and career success. #BehindEveryWoman is MWF’s effort to pinpoint issues that target and affect females, and it works to promote social and economic change. #HERstory honors the female trailblazers who continue to inspire the women and girls of the future.

The organization’s pillars are all supported as a result of this event. Those pillars are: Accelerating Women’s Entrepreneurship, Developing the Next Generation for Young Women Leaders, Sharing Women’s History and Leading the State’s Women’s Agenda.

The Detroit event is made possible by the generous sponsors: Consumers Energy, Comerica, DTE Foundation, General Motors, Huntington Bank, TCF, Meijer, Fifth Third Bank, Mercantile Bank, Motor City Casino, Priority Health and Spectrum Health.
