
Scott Ayotte joined the Division of Inclusion and Equity at Grand Valley State University in
2017 as the Director of Equity, Affirmative Action, and Equal Opportunity. In this role, Scott partners with university leadership to foster an inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students. Scott oversees the university’s affirmative action program, consults with university leadership on inclusive talent acquisition and retention, and provides leadership and oversight of the Inclusion Advocates Program.
Before joining Grand Valley State University, Scott focused extensively on corporate human
resources – specifically inclusion and diversity counseling – in the health care sector for a
West Michigan health system included in “Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals”. Scott has
worked with organizations in the healthcare, non-profit, and municipal sectors. He has
presented on the national and regional level to private and nonprofit organizations on topics relating to: innovative talent acquisition, generational diversity and succession planning, leadership development, and healthcare HR management.
Scott is a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Business
Administration in Economics. He also earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Western
Michigan University, focusing on constitutional and civil rights law.
Scott is also a member of the part-time faculty in the Seidman College of Business and Legal Studies Program where he teaches courses focusing on business law, commercial law, labor & employment law, leadership development, and global strategic management. Scott is a member of the boards of directors for the Grand Rapids Women’s Resource Center and Disability Advocates of Kent County. He is a former board member for the American Red Cross of West Michigan and the Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center. In recognition of his contributions to his community focusing on inclusion and equity, he was appointed to the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission in 2015 by Governor Rick Snyder.
