94th METRO DETROIT BOOK & AUTHOR SOCIETY LUNCHEON BRINGS
ACCLAIMED NATIONAL AUTHORS TO DETROIT
Bi-Annual Luncheon Considered Largest One-Day Author Event in the Country
The Society expects to welcome over 1,000 people. Book Sales begin at 11:00 am; lunch will be served at Noon.
The main program begins at 1 pm with the Society’s grant presentations followed by the event’s FOUR AUTHORS sharing stories about writing and their latest books. Authors will sign their newest work for all interested guests.
• Cecile Richards, author of “Make Trouble: Stand Up, Speak Out and Find the Courage to Lead,” a story based on her fight for women’s rights and social justice from the daughter of the late Governor Ann Richards and former Planned Parenthood President.
• Elizabeth George, author of “The Punishment She Deserves,” the 20th title in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries novel series that was adapted for TV and aired on the BBC and PBS.
• Elaine Weiss, author of “The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote,” a timely book focused on the female leaders who won American women the right to vote. Steven Speilberg’s Amblin TV plans to adapt it as either a TV movie or a limited series with former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton set to be its Executive Producer.
• Joe Grimm, author of “The Faygo Book,” a historical look at the people and company behind one of Detroit’s most iconic beverages from a former Detroit Free Press editor, Oakland University professor and awarded historian.
2019 Metro Detroit Book & Author Society Grants Being Awarded

James C. Dance Awards for the Arts – Presented to a public or academic library in metro Detroit that’s establishing, improving or expanding book collections and/or programs that advance or celebrate the arts.

Mary J. Ritter Literacy Award – Established to honor one of the Metro Detroit Book and Author Society founders who helped organize the Society’s inaugural luncheon in 1972. The award is presented to a metro Detroit organization that promotes literacy.
