DETROIT — The Southwest Detroit Business Association recently unveiled Bank of America as the sponsor of its Small Business Advocacy Center in a ceremony attended by SDBA staff, board members and Bank of America executives. This partnership marks the latest collaboration between the SDBA and Bank of America, which also served as the presenting sponsor of the SDBA’s Community Investment Breakfast in September.
SBAC serves as a vital resource for small businesses in Southwest Detroit, offering an array of supportive services, including workshops, training programs, legal assistance and community outreach. The center, open since 2016, works to empower local businesses, address community challenges, bridge digital divides and promote inclusivity in the entrepreneurial landscape of the region.
“Southwest Detroit is a vibrant community with a rich culture that plays a critical role in strengthening and growing Detroit’s economy,” said Star Crawford, Market Executive, Bank of America Detroit. “As longstanding partners, Bank of America is committed to the Southwest Detroit Business Association’s mission of community engagement, preservation of local culture and workforce development through innovation and technology.”
SDBA was previously named a Bank of America Neighborhood Builder, recognizing the nonprofit’s commitment to fostering economic and community empowerment in Southwest Detroit. The Neighborhood Builder program provides selected nonprofits with leadership training, flexible funding and resources to expand their impact, further strengthening their roles as driving forces within their communities.
“Support from partners like Bank of America allows us to deliver essential services that directly impact the lives of small business owners in Southwest Detroit,” said Laura L. Chavez-Wazeerud-Din, President & CEO, SDBA. “The SBAC is more than just a resource hub — it’s a lifeline for entrepreneurs navigating challenges.”
