HUNTINGTON WOODS, Mich. — An unlikely love affair is imperiled by long-hidden truths in the latest novel, Cave of Secrets, from Detroit-area author Lynne Golodner.
Golodner is the prolific author of nine previous books who has been described as a “wonderful writer who tackles tough subjects with sensitivity and wit.” After many years of focusing on nonfiction and poetry, she published her first novel, Woman of Valor, in 2023. A former journalist and current marketing expert, she also works as a publisher, podcaster, and writing coach —melding an unwavering commitment to her art while still making time to support the work of others.
A contemporary romance with hints of magical realism, Cave of Secrets is about family heritage, intergenerational trauma, and finding the courage to be honest with ourselves — and those who love us. As with much of Golodner’s writing, it grapples with issues surrounding Jewish identity. The story is propelled when a long-lost journal is discovered in a cave in the Scottish Highlands, its revelations testing the romance at the story’s heart.
The novel is being published by Scotia Road Books, a hybrid press focused on fiction and nonfiction by midlife women authors. Pre-orders are available now at Amazon and Barnes and Noble for the book, which hits stores on Aug. 27.
There will be a pre-launch signing event Aug. 2-3 in Livonia, Mich., at the annual Michigan Highland Games — a nod to the novel’s Scotland setting.
Its launch day will be celebrated with two events on Aug. 27:
- A live virtual conversation at 11 a.m. featuring Golodner and author and educator Merle R. Saferstein. Register here.
- An in-person event and book signing at 7 p.m. at the J Detroit in West Bloomfield Twp. hosted by the Detroit Jewish Book Fair and sponsored by the Detroit Writing Room. Golodner will be in conversation there with Lauren Johnson, director of the Detroit Jewish Book Fair. Register here.
Then from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 28, she will be paired with author Lisa Peers in a Summer Author Series event presented by Detroit Writing Room at Detroit restaurant The Whitney. The writers will discuss their books and careers, while guests will begin the night mingling and enjoying wine and appetizers. The event culminates with a book-signing. Register here.
After an award-winning career as a journalist and then a marketing entrepreneur, Golodner pivoted to writing novels, with a goal of producing a book a year.
“This story grapples with questions of identity and living openly and honestly without secrets,” she says. “We all have secrets — and we all want to be loved even when they are found out. That’s the central premise of this book, with four intertwined protagonists who just want to be loved for who they are.”
