Somerset Collection closes, will work with Detroit Rescue mission

Somerset Collection has made the decision to temporarily close, although the shopping center’s full-service restaurants are remaining open for carry-out curbside service.

The closure was effective Wednesday evening and will continue through at least March 27, according to a company statement.

A company-issued press release stated: “The overwhelming majority of our retail partners have closed worldwide. Together, we are putting the safety and well-being of our guests and our employees first. We respect Michigan Governor Whitmer’s leadership and decision to further enhance community mitigation by reducing public gathering.”

With community in mind, The Forbes Company, managing partner of Somerset Collection, will work with the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries to provide support to vulnerable citizens by donating 2,000 meals.

“Whenever there has been a need, The Forbes Company has stepped up to the plate to support our organization and the community we serve,” said Dr. Chad Audi, President and CEO, Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries. “Because of their generosity, 2,000 men, women and children in Detroit, who may have otherwise gone hungry, will have a warm meal tonight. We can’t thank them enough.”
