Carhartt, a well-recognized workwear brand founded in 1889, says it will work with Team Rubicon, a veteran-led global disaster response organization, as part of a community affairs initiative designed to help victims of disaster get back to work.

As a start, Carhartt is helping Team Rubicon rebuild Houston neighborhoods that were affected by recent flooding and wind damage.

Donations of 15,000 Carhartt Force Delmont T-shirts and a cash donation of $200,000 were announced in early June.

Team Rubicon is said to be the nation’s only disaster response organization made up primarily of volunteers who are U.S. military service veterans. The volunteers, colloquially known as Greyshirts, use their skills and experiences gained from serving to assist those most affected in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster.

“Team Rubicon is in a unique position to provide both first-class disaster response services, as well as offer job force training and a renewed sense of purpose for America’s military veterans,” said Tony Ambroza, chief brand officer at Carhartt. “This partnership will ensure that Team Rubicon’s hardworking volunteers can continue to rebuild communities.”

Team Rubicon was formed in response to the 2010 earthquake that impacted Haiti. Now boasting an 80,000-strong highly-skilled volunteer workforce, the organization has responded to more than 250 disasters domestically and internationally, including Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.

Jake Wood, co-founder and CEO of Team Rubicon, said the contribution of Carhartt is greatly appreciated.

“In our line of business, our teams are going to some rugged places to do some pretty hard work,” he said. “It’s important that we have gear that’s as rugged as we are, which is why we are excited about this partnership.”
