Alternatives For Girls (AFG), a non-profit organization that helps homeless and high-risk young women avoid violence, teen pregnancy and exploitation, today announced that tickets are on sale for their 20th anniversary Role Model Dinner at the Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit on Thursday, April 30th from 6-9 p.m. In honor of their participants’ successes against all odds, AFG’s Role Model Dinner will have the theme, the “Audacity to Succeed.”

Tickets for this event are $150 and include a reception and dinner at the new Detroit Westin, as well as complimentary valet parking. The event features an awards presentation to honor the 2009 Role Model winners. Additionally, a silent auction and live auction by Chris Aslanian will occur the night of the fundraiser.

To purchase individual tickets or reserve a table for the Role Model Dinner please visit AFG’s website: www.alternativesforgirls.org or contact Lindsey McDonald via phone at 313.361.4000 ext. 230 or email her at [email protected].

“The Role Model Dinner is always an amazing event,” said AFG CEO Amy Good. “This year represents twenty fabulous years of this fundraiser and each year the dinner continues to meet and exceed expectations, due to the generosity of our tremendous circle of support. The opportunity to come together to celebrate amazing women, and to raise critical funds for homeless and high-risk girls and young women, continues to inspire all who participate in this event that AFG is extremely proud of.”

Award winners at the 2009 Role Model Dinner will include Karen Love, COO of The Michigan Chronicle and Michigan FrontPage, as the 2009 Professional Role Model; Gail Perry Mason, vice president of Oppenheimer & Co., Inc., as this year’s Community Role Model; and Marla Tapper Young, co-owner of Tapper’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry, as the awardee of this year’s Emerging Leader Award. A Summit Award will be presented to Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib, the first Muslim woman to serve in the Michigan Legislature. Anqunette Jamison, the new morning anchor on Fox 2, will be the emcee for the evening.

The AFG Role Model Dinner is one of the organization’s most prestigious events and fundraisers. To ensure the success of this dinner and the organization, AFG continues to search for sponsorships to help strengthen their mission. Sponsors for the dinner will help to support the AFG shelter, prevention and outreach programs that deliver critical services to girls and young women in crisis or at-risk.

“The current economic struggles in our nation and particularly in Michigan have presented a challenge to us in garnering support for our work this year,” said Good. “AFG is working extremely hard and closely with many businesses to make this year’s event both memorable and fun for all those who attend. Our efforts to acquire sponsorships continue as we develop creative ways for supporters to participate.”

There currently are several opportunities available for all levels of supporters to participate in the 2009 Role Model Dinner. If interested in a sponsorship opportunity, please contact Brenda Griffin by phone at 313-361-4000 ext. 223 or email her at [email protected].

This year’s sponsors thus far for the Role Model Dinner include the Henry Ford Health System and Health Alliance Plan, PVS Chemical, Comerica Bank, The Bing Group, Right Management, Corp!, Skidmore Design and Trinity Health.
