ALLEN PARK — The Target store in Allen Park was filled with excitement and holiday spirit Dec. 9 as local first responders joined Target team members to host a Heroes & Helpers shopping event for youth from Allen Park Public Schools.
The event, held at Target’s location at 3100 Fairlane Drive, brought together members of the Allen Park Police Department, Allen Park Fire Department, and Target volunteers to accompany students on a festive, gift-filled shopping experience funded by Target GiftCards.
The participating children were nominated through community partners to take part in the annual holiday tradition, which is designed to support youth from under-resourced households.
Children shopped alongside police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel, selecting gifts for themselves and loved ones while forming memorable connections with the first responders who serve their community.
Target team members were on hand throughout the store to help make the evening special, from organizing gift selections to high-fiving excited kids and cheering on their choices.
“Watching the kids bond with our local Allen Park heroes is what this program is all about,” said Darlene Palmer, Executive Team Leader of Service and Engagement at Target Allen Park. “We’re proud to partner with the Allen Park Police and Fire Departments to help bring joy to families during the holidays.”
Since 2009, Target has hosted more than 3,000 Heroes & Helpers events nationwide, welcoming more than 100,000 children and partnering with over 60,000 first responders. The program has awarded more than $6 million in grants to help create meaningful holiday experiences for youth across the country.
“This is our fourth year of partnership with Target with the Heroes & Helpers program,” said Richard Hamilton, firefighter and paramedic with the Allen Park Fire Department. “It just brings a smile to see them smile.”
