Beer is meant for many things. One of them is to celebrate special times. I will always remember Founders Porter as the beer of choice during my daughter Cora’s wedding. (At least it was the beer of choice in my hotel room. I don’t know what everyone else was drinking.) Porter is a great brew, a little sweeter than stout, but as rich with its many toasty, roasty, malty flavors. It can be a beverage that will get you through storms, or lonely nights in remote camps or worksites or weddings. The name has been linked to the beer’s popularity with street and river porters in London. Founders Porter is excellent, and it lives up to its Dark, Rich and Sexy description on the label. Beeradvocate.com gives it a 95 overall score, making it World Class and a Must Try. The rating goes from 0-100. It has 6.5 percent alcohol content. Founders Porter is crafted by Founders Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids, Mich., foundersbrewing.com. The city, with its 17-plus breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs, in 2013 won the designation Beer City USA in an online contest.
