
Special Olympics Michigan and The Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit are gearing up for the Detroit Polar Plunge, an event set to take place on March 1. This event aims to support year-round sports programming for the nonprofit organization. This is the second year the Polar Plunge is taking place at BYC.

• Event Location: Bayview Yacht Club, situated on the banks of the Detroit River at 100 Clairpointe. Plungers take the leap into the BYC Harbor.
• Event Schedule: Check-in begins at 3 p.m., with the plunging activity scheduled to take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
• Registration for both the 2024 Detroit Polar Plunge and Frozen 5K is open at www.plungemi.org.
• More than 400 participants are anticipated to take part in either the Polar Plunge into the frigid Detroit River waters or the Frozen 5K run/walk.
• Fundraising Goal: The event aims to raise funds to support sports training and athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Last year, the Polar Plunge at BYC raised $83,000, surpassing its goal of $65,000.
• This year, the goal is to surpass a record-breaking $1 million raised statewide.
• Activities: The Frozen 5K Charity Walk will commence near the Polar Plunge site. Participants can choose to walk as a group or run at their own pace. An after-party will be held at BYC following the activities.
• Pre-Plunge Party: The event kicks off with the “Cold Splash Bash” at 3 p.m., featuring check-in, donation turn-in, and a pre-plunge party. A slider bar will be available before and after the plunge for participants who raise more than $100.
