DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 14, 2011 - Three new awards will be presented on Dec. 1 at a dinner being held at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn. William R. Chapin, president, Automotive Hall of Fame, along with a committee of industry leaders including Lorraine Schultz, founder and CEO of the Women’s Automobile Association International; Margery Krevsky, president and co-founder of Productions Plus – The Talent Shop; Lynn Wilhelm of Turning Point and William Mihalic, board member - Automotive Hall of Fame; have chosen three worthy individuals to receive recognition for excellence in the automotive industry that often challenges women executives. Portions of the proceeds from ticket sales will be allocated to the Automotive Hall of Fame Women's Scholarship program. The new program supplements outstanding students from a range of backgrounds to pursue their studies in automotive industry studies.
The Alice H. Ramsey Legend Award whose namesake, herself a pioneer in the automotive world, will be presented to Maureen Kempston Darkes by Alice H. Ramsey's son, Peter Ramsey. Darkes held the position of first female and longest serving president of General Motors Canada and lead other divisions such as GM Latin America, Middle East and Africa.
A journalistic award, aptly named the Scribe Award, will be presented to Jean Jennings, president and editor-in-chief at Automobile magazine. Jennings has made a career out of writing, driving and living the automobile industry life through her work with several publications. In 1980, she began her career at Car and Driver, and went on to help launch Automobile magazine in 1986. Her point of view and passion for the industry have made her one of the most revered in her field.
As an individual who is directly involved in the advancement and placement of women in the automotive industry, Tommy Shi, diversity and inclusion officer, Mercedes-Benz USA will receive the Vanguard Award.
The awards will take place at the Automotive Hall of Fame with a dinner as well as a display of historic automobiles complete with live models in authentic vintage fashions. Productions Plus -The Talent Shop Co-Founder and President Margery Krevsky, who also authored the book, Sirens of Chrome: The Enduring Allure of Auto Show Models, will be providing the models and fashions. The Sirens of Chrome exhibit, created by the National Automotive History Collection at the Detroit Public Library, is on display in Michigan at the Automotive Hall of Fame for several weeks beginning Nov. 11 as part of its nationwide tour.
