Association for Women in Communications – Detroit Launches Advocacy Initiative with “Clink for Charity”!

Looking to the future,The Association of Women in Communications (AWC) – Detroit Chapter embraces advocacy as a driving force of its organization. To celebrate the launch of its advocacy initiative, AWC-Detroit will host a wine-tasting fundraiser to benefit:

Utilizing the professional talents of their members, AWC-Detroit will work toward advancing causes that will create positive and meaningful change in the lives of women. “Our group has been acknowledged historically for honoring women who demonstrate professional excellence or who advocate for the advancement of women in the workforce,” states Deniella Ortiz-Lalain, President of the Association for Women in Communications – Detroit Chapter. “The launch of our advocacy initiative takes our organization to the next level. For decades our group has attracted some of the most talented professionals in the industry. Now we are committed to focusing that collective knowledge and energy towards for the betterment of the community.”

“Detroit is a city in the midst of an amazing transformation,” states Kristin Shaw, VP and Co-Chair of the Advocacy Committee for the AWC-Detroit Chapter. “As an organization we want to be active participants. As professional communicators we can offer our talents to organizations that are creating positive change. Mercy Education Project is such an organization. It is a free educational program that works to improve the lives of low-income women and girls. This program delivers exceptional results. Over 50% of the participants read at or below the 5th grade level when they enter the program. Of the women who complete the GED preparation program, over 90 percent achieve the GED, with a full 80% going on to college, employment or a job training program. This is an organization we are proud to support.”

AWC-Detroit Chapter is extending an open invitation to the entire community to come celebrate with them and support this organization. This is a perfect opportunity to discover Detroit’s exciting new wine bar while supporting the great work of Mercy Education project.

The cost for this event is $50 in advanced or $60 at the door ($18 is a tax-deductible contribution to Mercy Education Project). The evening includes a seasonal tasting event: wine flight tasting, meat and cheese tray and dessert. Cocktails, cider and soft drinks will also be served. A silent auction will follow.
