Plastic-Free Food Bag System Gets ‘Best Environment Saver’ Nod

stasher bagA reusable, plastic-free bag that provides an air-tight seal for food may cost you more than the traditional zipper bags, but the benefits, say the makers of Stasher, outweigh the costs, especially when you consider that they can be washed over and over again.

The Stasher was founded by Kat Nouri, a busy mother of three who had been making school lunches for years while thinking (quite rightly it turns out) that “there must be a better way.”

Concerns over the “disposable” nature of plastic and the health concerns over the use of products containing BPA, PVC and latex were also motivators.

Nouri, whose company Modern-Twist (a San Francisco Bay-area pioneer in the use of pure food-grade silicone), had that better way right at hand. After two years of product development, she began selling Stasher, a self-sealing non-plastic bag that is free of chemicals of concern.

Since debuting in 2016, Stasher has won several awards, including the design industry’s Red Dot award and Inc. magazine’s “Best Environment Saver.”
