Here you’ll find exclusive online cover stories about fascinating people, companies, organizations and industries, as well as cover articles from our print magazine. Also, look for advice from experts on everything from finance, diversity, human resources to sales and marketing. Executive Life contains book reviews on business tomes that can help you run your business better and manage your team smarter, as well as articles about tips and tools of interest to busy executives.

Cover Stories

- One Midwest university has jumped down from its ivory tower to train graduate-level entrepreneurs from across campus how to succeed in their own businesses. Here's how it happens.

- S2 Yachts and Energetx Composites demonstrate resiliency, entrepreneurship – and a willingness to change.

Finance & Wealth

- In response to the current economy, the 12-person law firm of Plachta, Murphy & Associates, P.C. (PMA) asked its business clients how it could help them through these tough times. Two primary concerns came to light: 1) help with collection of past-due account receivables and 2) establish an alternative pay arrangement, such as a flat fee.

- If you own a business, chances are you also own life insurance. The most common reason for owning insurance is also the most obvious: death benefit protection. This can mean anything from providing income for your family, to protecting your business from creditors, or providing funds for the all important buy/sell agreement.

Sales & Marketing

- Businesses are one month into 2010, and there’s one thing on every business owner’s mind – increasing revenue. Last year, many companies cut down to the bone to survive the tough economic conditions; now, however, businesses are realizing the inability to continue to “cut to growth.”

- Know your customer. Develop the right products. Hone your marketing strategy. Sound simple? It’s certainly not a piece of cake or even easy as pie, but, this focused approach works whether you are selling Special K, S.M.A.R.T. interest checking accounts or something else that’s your business’ sweet spot.

Executive Life

- This new book may seem a little simplistic at first glance, but it contains real help for managers experiencing communication problems inside their organizations.

- At staggering rates, heart disease continues to claim the lives of many people across the national and in Southeast Michigan. This is especially true for women, who tend to nurture everyone else except themselves. As a physician, I’m encouraging you to understand your risk factors and be proactive.

Human Resources

- Almost all businesses have an employee handbook. It may be a printed handbook that’s distributed to employees. Or, like many companies, your handbook may be electronic and available to employees through an online human resource system.

- Companies large and small have come to realize that the benefits of a healthy workforce – increased productivity, reduced absenteeism, decreased health care utilization and costs – remain vital to their overall success and profit margin.

Diversity

- Ask just about any American for a success story as it relates to diversity and you’re likely to hear two words: Barack Obama. Indeed, when Corp! magazine contacted this year’s Diversity Awards winners, the election of the nation’s 44th president (and the first citizen of African-American heritage to hold the post) was typically among the highlights given for progress made to date.

- More than 200 people gathered to celebrate the 56 winners of Corp! magazine’s Salute to Diversity Awards at a breakfast Tues., Oct. 14 at the Troy Marriott.
